About the Recipe

Lavender tea is made from the dried flowers or buds of the lavender plant, scientifically known as Lavandula angustifolia.

Ever since ancient times, lavender has been used as a healing brew. Not only that, but it was also used as a medicinal plant by the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians because of its therapeutic properties. While it was not exactly used as a lavender tea back then, it was definitely in everyone's medicinal cabinet

Herbalists and monks in Europe commonly used lavender tea to treat various ailments, such as headaches, digestive issues, and anxiety. The calming effects of lavender tea make it a valuable remedy in times of stress and unrest.

While lavender tea offers numerous benefits, it is important to consume it in moderation. Excessive intake may lead to potential side effects such as headaches or gastrointestinal discomfort. As with any herbal tea, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional if you have any specific concerns or medical conditions before incorporating lavender tea into your routine.

Ingredients

4 green-tea bags

1 ½ teaspoons fresh lavender blossoms or 3/4 tsp. dried lavender

Lemon

Lavender sprigs / lavender tincture (5 drops per serving)

Preparation

Step 1

Heat 1 pint water in a medium saucepan until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add tea and lavender.

Step 2

Steep for 5 minutes. Strain into a heatproof pitcher or bowl. Let cool.

Step 3

Pour into ice-filled glasses and garnish with lavender sprigs if you like.

Notes:

Use fresh garden lavender, if you have it, for a lightly floral, super refreshing iced tea. You can also use 5 drops of tincture per glass if you don’t have it.
